Climate Change Adaptation through Improved Access to Water and Adaptive Agriculture
Project:
Drought Adaptation through Improved Access to Water and Adaptive Agriculture is improving the farmers capacity to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change, such as droughts. The project aims to increase the farmers’ income by increasing the rice cultivation season from once per year, to twice per year. This will be done by improving the access to irrigation systems by repairing canals and applying Adaptive Agricultural Techniques. These techniques include having access to low-interest loans from Self Help Groups and increasing access to drought resistant rice seeds. This will help the farmers to have multiple income sources, such as home gardening, rice cultivation, animal raising and aquaculture.
